Default WGT624 v4 firmware upgrade

I'm having numerous wireless problems, so I'm trying to upgrade the router's firmware.
First problem: I click "Check for New Version from the Internet" and the software/page goes into an infinite loop stating:
"Attempting to connect to Netgear Server 1. Please Wait..."

So, I then downloaded the latest upgrade from the NetGear website.
Filename: WGT624v4-V2.0.13_2.0.15NA.chk
When I try to install it on the router, I get the error message:
"Invalid filename was provided, please enter again."

Any other ideas? I'm losing faith in NetGear here...

When I owned that router many years ago that menu option to upgrade worked, but a lot of people, myself included were getting ‘bricked’ routers as a result of an upgrade failure, so I think Netgear removed the files from the server forcing people to manually download to their hard drives.

If you use a web browser like Firefox then this might apply;

And as June said, make sure you use a wired conenction from the PC to the router for the upgrade.

That worked! Thanks guys!

I was using FireFox, and although the downloaded firmware files *look* identical, the IE-downloaded file actually installed correctly.

And ya, now that makes sense why the "Check for New Version" page loops infinitely. I just wish NetGear had figured out a more friendly way to inform users than simply removing the files from their servers.

Thanks again!

hello gentleman, this is the same problem that I had but it seems to have changed some of the firmware program when I tried to upload it and now I can not configure the router. do you have any idea of how to set the firmware back and start over?

Thanks for the help, but I tried all of the reset options, tried to ping, and talked to the Netgear support and they said it was probably fautly and that I should return it to the store.
