Default WGR614: Wireless Connected, but no Internet access

New here, and semi-computer literate.

To be concise, I have a WGR614 router and last night my internet was working fine on my laptop and then it suddenly acted as though it was no longer online. The wireless icon says that i DO have a 54mbps connection to my router. This is verified b/c I have a PS3 that uses wireless that I used to test to ensure my wireless was connected. It is.

Heres what I have done so far:

1. Periodically my connection will drop and usually I will just have to re-connect via my wireless icon and Im g2g. However, I tried restarting, reconnecting for about 20 mins last night and gave up. Today is the same problem. I unplugged and plugged back in the power cable from the router also to no avail.

2. I did the cmd prompt and got a ping from my IP address, but then tried google from cmd prompt and that didnt work.

3. I attempted to reconfigure but the default name and PW wouldnt let me do anything (I must have forgotten my original username). Though Im not sure if thats what I need to do b/c I DO have wireless connectivity (again the PS3 internet works fine),so I think its something with my laptop which is odd since it worked last night.

4. I dont have 60 bucks to spare to call netgear and pay for their service.

Can anyone help me out?

jmiz,

If I did what you asked correctly I typed "ping 4.2.2.1" and received the following response:

"Ping statistics for 4.2.2.1:
Packets: Sent = 4, Receied = 4, Lost = 0 (0% Loss)"

I get 4/4 when I type in my internet IP as well... Again my wireless icon says that Im connected with 54mbps, but for some reason it wont allow the internet to access.

Not sure if I did as instructed...
