Default Router speed test?

How do you test the transfer speed of the router?
This routers says it can do 300Mbps, how can I review this for myself?

use this

http://www.ixchariot.com/products/da...ts/qcheck.html

you will need PC on wired and one on wireless and test throughput.

http://vpncasestudy.com/download/use...erformance.pdf

you will find how you will figure Mbps to MB/s

For wireless connection (up to 300 Mbps)

Let me clarify things first, the 300 Mbps speed is only the connection speed for the wireless connection NOT the throughput. There are some factors for you to consider to attain this speed.

1. Your wireless network card should be capable for this speed.
2. Security encryption should be set to WPA2 or none.
3. Network environment and interferance.

For wired connection (1 Gbps)

1. Your networrk card should be a gigabit NIC.
2. Your ethernet cable should be Cat5e or a Cat6 for gigabit comnnection.

The actual throughput is different from the connection speed.

You may try Jperf or Iperf to test another condiseration wich is the bandwidth passing throught the WAN port of the router.

Hereís how I got jperf and how I learn to use it. It is much easier to use since it is a Java based GUI from CLI iperf.

1. Download jperf from :
http://code.google.com/p/xjperf/downloads/list

2. Read the basic introduction from :

http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/content/view/30408/235/

3. Do not forget to check the "Related Articles"

http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/content/view/30681/53/

4. Download JAVA update from:

http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

and update your machnine.

5. Unzip your Jperf and run the jperf batch file.

6. Play around with jperf you need at least 2 computers.

Unfortunately:

But ixChariot is not for free. you may request for an evaluation copy..

I hope JPERF can help you.
