I have a sc101 and it will simply not work
I have just put windows xp on a maxtor hard drive so i know there is nothing wrong with it. The Green light on the sc101 is flashing green rapidly without the hard drive fitted. I fitted the hard drive and it still flashes after about 60 secs or so. I tried to do a reset on the back, held button in for over 2 mins but nothing. Any Help\Ideas would be grateful. Alan |

Check that HD is compatible ( SC101 Hard Drive Compatibility List).
If it is then check that jumpers are set to CS (Cable Select). Then if green LED is still flashing: Interpreting SC101 Green light (Power) Status: and report here your findings. |

Thanks For your reply,
The HD is a Maxtor diamond plus 9 80gig. Cable select is selected. I forgot to mention that i have used this hard drive before and it worked fine. When it worked last i put it into standby mode before i went on hols since then it has not worked. If i place the hd in the left hand side 60secs or less the green light is flashing, according to interpreting green light status the hard drive is not working, even though i have formatted it and installed windows. If i place HD in right hand side the red light is flashing once every second and the green light is flashing same has left hand side. Hope This Helps Al |

Try a long (~60 sec) reset while powered up and disk in place.

Use an external PC power supply to hook it up to the HD and check if this makes any difference. BTW, the unit is a SAN, not a NAS. Big difference! More about this: http://www.nas-san.com/differ.html |

I've had this exact same problem with my SC101 running two Maxtor DiamondMax 300Gb disks.
Powered the SC101 unit off for about 3-6months. Now the unit flashes constant GREEN, and you can hear the disk(s) searching (regular click-click-click as if the heads are passing backwards and forwards). I don't suppose whether there's a driver for a PC/Mac is there that I can remove the Maxtor hard disks, put them into the PC/Mac and read the (SC101 written) data off of them with, is there? I recollect in the early days that this wasn't possible, but now wondered whether is has changed. The data I need off of the SC101 is now quite urgent, so I'd appreciate any ideas right now! ![]() Many thanks. |

To clarify, flashes GREEN (not "constant GREEN") as has been written.
I also have access to LINUX/Ubuntu machines if that will help as a new donor host. Many thanks. |

Anyhow, if the green LED power is flashing then the disks are not recognized or you're having a power supply problem. Read the posts re using external PC power supply to test. Re mounting in other devices: Forget it. |
