Default WNDR3300: Can't connect wirelessly...

I got a Netgear WNDR3300 two night ago. I get it installed
and now... none of my wireless devices connect. Well,
they see the router if I hit refresh a few times and *might*
connect only to drop in a matter of minutes or have it's
speed decrease until it crawls at 1mb speed and then
drops. Two of the systems are next to the router with
one being a new netbook. Both of these work on my
WRT54GL router and whatever my neighbors have.

Anyway, I updated the routers firmware and updated
the driver for the RealTek USB wireless card on the
netbook. Neither of which helped. Well, now it connects
and then 20+ minutes later, the router will finally assign
an IP but then it still drops/crawls as before.

Any suggestions?

Hi aisusa,

Try to change the wireless settings of the router. Here are the steps that I recommend you try:

1. Open any web browser like Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox.
2. Connect to the router by typing http://routerlogin.com/basicsetting.htm or http://192.168.1.1 in the address field and click Enter or Return key.
3. A window will prompt for a user name and password. The default username is "admin" and the default password is "password".

Note: If it does not take password as the password, you might have changed it when you have run the NETGEAR Setup CD so please try other passwords. If you cannot remember the password, you need to reset the router.

4. When the setup page opens, click on the Wireless Settings under Setup and change the SSID to a unique name.
5. You may also change the wireles channel here. We suggest channels 1, 6 and 11.
6. At the bottom of the page, look for the Security Options. If in case that the security is set to WEP or WPA-PSK, we have to enter the same wireless security on all wireless PCs. To make sure of the key, we can try modifying the security. Please refer to the following:

For WEP: Select Key 1 and enter 10 hexadecimal digits (0-9 and A-F) on the empty box beside it. Then, click on Apply.

For WPA-PSK: Enter an alphanumeric key (minimum of 8 characters) on the Passphrase box and click on Apply.

Note: The Key and Passphrase are case-sensitive.

It seems that something is interfering as when I put G on channel 6 instead of auto, it started working. Maybe it was that simple. Its just strange because b/g only routers don't get the interference.
