Default DGND3300 Guest Network?

I have a Netgear DGND3300, I've had it up and running for a couple of months now with no problems. I'm on the V1.1.00.32_1.00.32NA firmware.

Can someone please explain the "Guest Network" options to me? I'm not finding much documentation and my experiments in tweaking the settings caused 'problems'.

1. Does the Guest Network stuff even work properly with this version of the firmware?[1][2]

2. There is an option for "Allow Guest to access MY Local Network" but what I'd like to know is: can I access the Guest Network *from* my private Local Network? (the entire point of this is that I've got an old webcam that only does WEP and it'd be nice if I could set it up to use the Guest Network, and then access it via my WPA2 non-Guest network).

Thanks in advance!

JLP

[1] for instance, the control panel for Guest Networks looks somewhat different than what is shown at http://documentation.netgear.com/dgn...usermanual.pdf and when I try to enable a Guest Network and specify Security as WEP (for example) I get a message "the passphrase can only be fit the value between 8~63 ASCII characters or 64 hex digits." Also, it seemed to disable my non-Guest wireless connections -- I ended up having to reset the unit several times to return things to normal.

[2] I've seen the suggestion to hand-edit a copy of the netgear.cfg file -- has anyone ever successfully set up a Guest Network this way? It looks straightforward but I'm a bit paranoid about hosing my network.

guest network as said, made for guest to use network without compromise your network via anyway.

it does VLAN/layer 3 function to isolate the access to the network but ONLY for gateway to the internet

if you want allow a guest then you must use Allow Guest to access MY Local Network" option to allow it.

I have a quesion also about the guest network.

I would like to use it for when family or friends visit me so they can get acess to the internet with teir own laptop/mobile device etc.
I also use access control so I can manage devices connecting to my own WLAN.
I know I can stop guest from accessing my LAN. However once the Guest network is set up I dont wany to us access control for that.
Is what say possible, or does the ACL control both my own WLAN and the Guest WLAN?

cheers in advance for the reponses guys.

Believe ACL is for main wireless and not for guest

After doig some brief tests it seems as if the ACLl does control the Guest WLANS which is a dissapointment.
