Welcome to the forum.

It is common practice to at least let us know what products you have.

Since most of the routers interfaces are pretty much the same, you need to log into the interface of the router and select 'Wireless Settings'. In some cases all you will see is asterisks, so you may have to recreate the security.

My husband set up our network and he recently passed away. I have just purchased a laptop with wireless built-in. After messing with it for awhile, I finally got it to recognize my NETGEAR wireless network. However it is asking for a network key. I've read the messages but I do not know how to log into the interface for my router. I'm a newbie. Can somebody give me detailed directions on how to get my network key?

Thank you.

Question Re: forgot my network key

Ok...what did y'all find out? I just set up my security key and I have entered the few that I know I would use, but none of them are working. I feel silly that I've already forgotten, but how do I change or find out what my security key/passphrase is? Please help!

I don't know if this is obvious -- but it might be worth stating that to bypass the wireless encryption password to access the router you may need to connect with an ethernet cable.

If your computer lacks an ethernet port (looks like a wider version of a US phone socket) you can add one to a desktop computer for peanuts -- a PCMCIA card version for a laptop costs more but is simple to install.

Either are a good investment as an ethernet connection will usually be faster, more reliable, than wireless.

Cool Re: forgot my network key

I am trying to use my new laptop at my girlfriends house and it asks for the network key. She does not know what that is and she does not have the paperwork (tossed it). She said her friend had the same problem before. What do I need to do so I can access the internet at her house?
