Default Wireless Network Not Recognized

I have a Dell Dimension desktop running Windows XP that connects to my 2.4GHz 802.11 G Netgear router with no problem. I also have a Dell Studio XPS 16 laptop with a Intel WiFi Link 5100 adapter that normally connects to the router with no problem. The laptop is currently not recognizing my router although it recognizes other wireless networks in my area. I've tried restarting the router and installing the latest driver for my laptop's wireless adapter to no avail. The same problem occurred approximately 3 months ago and I was not able to connect to the router via my laptop for about 4 days. I came home from work one day and it magically worked fine before I was able to determine what the problem was. Anyone have any ideas?

could just be a hardware glitch (due to oldness) or interference of some sort. do you remember the status of the wireless light icon on the router during this time? you should have at least tried checking the router screen and made changes to the wireless settings of the router like the channel that might have resolved the problem.

Some routers use a plug-in wireless card internally and occasionally these have come loose in the socket, especially if the router has been dropped or knocked hard. If the router is out of warranty its very easy to open the case up, sometimes there are four screws hidden under the rubber feet, and then simply push the card home in the socket.

I wouldn't think it's an issue with the router as it works fine wireless with my desktop. I changed channels thinking it might be interference, but that didn't work. Randomly my laptop will recognize the network but when I try to connect to it, it doesn't work. I tested the laptop at a different location and it works fine. Can't think of anything else it may be.
