Reason why I am asking is that a person at best buy said that it will work with any of the new laptops that has the 2010 Intel chips I5-I7 and also has the Intel HD graphics built in. The only difference is that the 3 that Best Buy Blue Label laptops they sell has a special specific button for the WIDI and if you use the Netgear Push2TV with lets say another laptop with a I5 and a Intel HD graphics card but not built in specific WIDI button, that it will still work but you just have to go through some options in the computer softwear to get it working.
Is this true? From my understanding before talking to the Best Buy guy is that the only 3 laptops that it will currently work with is the 3 Blue Label with the WIDI buttons built in that has the Intel wireless Display software pre-installed into the computer. Was he right that the WIDI will work with other computers as well? Can you just buy the Netgear Push2TV and a laptop with a 2010 I5 prosessor and Intel HD Graphics, install the Netgear Push2TV software and it will work like the 3 Best Buy Blue Label laptops minus the specific WIDI button (just have to go a couple extra steps into the computer to make it work?) |

It might be possible to "hack" another laptop with the correct hardware to work with the Intel Widi drivers, but the only supported laptops are the 3 that are listed. I know they're planning on coming out with a lot more supported laptops over the next few months, but for now it's just them.

What have you heard? Have you heard how soon new laptops are going to be coming out with the WIDI built into them? Also, like the other forum member mentioned after you, would you really need to "hack" other laptops with 2010 intel cards built into them? The cards itself alone with the Netgear Push2tv box would be compatible together without a hack of some sort? |

I've never tried it since I don't have a non-qualified laptop with the correct hardware, which is why I hedged my bet with saying "it might..". Also since Netgear and Intel don't support any laptops other than those on the qualified list for the PTV, I think it still falls under the "hack" category.

I really want the WIDI feature but I am not really digging the 3 supported ones. I would love to get a Laptop with a I5-540m processor, built in blueray, and supports the WIDI.
For sure the laptop has to have the Intel HD graphics built in, correct? A dedicated graphics card built in for sure wouldnt work with WIDI, correct? |

I see a lot of (well not a lot, alot, but quite a few) Intel CPUs with Nvidia card from companies such as Sony. Now, I am not a gamer really, so is this that important? Also, am I correct in my understanding that to use the netgear push2tv that I do have to have a intel graphics card which is the only card compatible with the push2tv gear and the Nvidia would not be compatible with the push2tv gear?
Also, less important to me if its not a big deal is the graphics card as I am not a gamer but I would like to have the option to purchase a laptop that does have the upgraded I5-520m processor if it would work with the WIDI and netgear push2tv........Such as a laptop like this (if I am not supposed to post links, I am sorry, please delete then. I am new to the forum so not sure if its ok): http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Sony+-+V...=9723951&st=i5 |
