Default Computer will not recognize router

I have a new computer that I've been attempting to connect to the internet. It doesn't seem to recognize the router it's currently plugged into. The light on the router is green, showing me that the router knows its plugged into my computer, the problem is my computer doesn't seem to be aware of this.

I've looked around this site for a little while and talked with my ISP but the issue has yet to be resolved. Can anyone help me?

when I type "ipconfig" into the command prompt I don't get an IP address. I simply get a message saying "widnows ip configuration"

when I type in 192.168.1.1 into the address bar in internet explorer, it cannot display the web page.

make sure that the computer is connected directly to one of the 4 ports of the router... go to network connection and look for your Local Area Connection.. Make sure that the status says connected..

I've triple checked at this point, the cables are all right where they need to be. When I go to look at my connections, none are listed.

You know what, it just occurred to me that I should probably install the driver disc that came with my motherboard, I'll post here if that doesn't work.
