I am replacing a Linksys WRT54G with the Netgear WNR2000v1. After setup both of my laptops connect to the internet but neither can "see" the server or join the Homegroup in Windows 7. The Linksys has no problem. I have mapped and used drives from the server with both laptops and the Linksys but something on the Netgear is blocking me from seeing the server. The server can see the laptops so the block is one way. Please help.

My server is wired and the laptop is connecing wirelessly. Internet works fine but can't "see" server. Server "sees" laptops. Can't map drives if I can't see the server. Starting to think the WNR2000 can't network. Either that or the refurbished model is defective. Put the Linksys WRT54G back on and it finds the server easily and maps the drives. Is there something about Windows 7 that blocks when you replace a router? It shows the new router configuration as Network 2. I don't think that should matter. Thanks.

Wired didn't work either. Then I tried reflashing new firmware and I had more communication but still could not get to server or homegroup. I ran the Homegroup troubleshooter and it suggested disabling McAfee firewall. I did and it worked so it was a combo of 2 problems. I don't know how the Linksys did not have a problem with McAfee firewall but it don't matter now since it works. Thank you for your help.

if both laptop are on wired at least that should bet working
one issue is both router's default IP is different.. 192.168.1.x and 192.168.0.1 if that is the case McAfee is still only allowing one of the IP and not the new router. you must reconfigure to trust new IP's. disabling McAfee sometime do not cure the issues.
