Default Netgear Wireless router WNR1000 won't connect to windows 7 desktop

I just bought a new desktop computer and tried to hook it up to my wireless router (netgear rangemax 150 wnr1000) that I bought in September of 2009 but had not used it until now. I am trying to hook up the new desktop with a wired connection from one of the ports on the wireless router. The problem is that the windows 7 desktop does not recognize the internet coming from router. I have 2 other laptops that run windows vista and they connect perfectly, wired or wirelessly. So the router works, just not with the desktop that runs windows 7. I have updated the firmware on the router and searched through this forum but I cannot find the fix. I am pretty sure the problem has to do with windows 7 so I was hoping that someone else had this problem and knows the answer. Thanks

You could check in case you are using a static IP address on your Win 7 machine.

I think the windows 7 desktop has a dynamic IP address. I went to start, run, cmd and typed in "ipconfig/all" and saw that DHCP was enabled. If this does not mean the IP address is dynamic let me know how to check. Thanks for the suggestion.

check the IP address of your PC when it's connected to the router and check if you could communicate it to your device by doing a PING test.

Can you also post the IP addresses you got?

If you're getting a valid IP (192.168.x.x or 10.0.0.x), please try pinging the router's IP, then try pinging 4.2.2.2 and then ping yahoo.com and post the results.

Also make sure you have an updated driver for your network adapter on win7 since other computers are working just fine.

Alright, when I checked the IP address while it was connected to the router the media state is "media disconnected" and no ip address. Whenever I bypass the router and just get the internet straight from the modem I get an IP address of 75.182.101.239 and the internet works fine if that matters any. I'm obviously no computer wiz but I just can't figure out why the computer doesn't see the connection when it's plugged into the router.

I didn't ping anything since I was not getting an IP address when plugged into the router. I searched for an update to the driver but did not find one. I'm not saying there wasn't one out there, just that i couldn't find one.

I shut down the PC and booted it back up and I am still getting "media disconnected" for the LAN port and no IP address.
