Default VPN Firewall Slow

I have a FVS318 with a pc and laptop connected to it and Comcast internet. The FVS318 is at version 3.0.28, uses default settings: gets the IP and DNS dynamically/automatically from the ISP. No VPN setup, just basic stuff. Status says LAN/WAN: 100FULL. Cable modem is Motorola SB5120.

The download speed is 4-5MB through the router. When I connect directly to the cable modem bypassing the FVS318, my download speed is 27-30MB.
Powered off everything and re-started in the correct sequence.
Why is the router slowing down the download speed?

Thanks, Jim

ANY FVS318 will not work at that speed

you will need FVS318G at minimum

look at other spec from product page at netgear.com

FVS318 only goes to 11Mbps but will do 6Mbps on each in /out
