My laptop suffered major failure and I have had to re-install everthing. When I tried to use the wifi I was asked for the Network Key but I haven't a clue what this is (I am not technically minded) and cannot find anything about it in the manual. Can anyone help?

If you mean the wireless network wep/wpa key, go into the router interface and set a new one. Then you will have to put the new one in all your client pc's so you can connect.

If you mean the password used to access the router, then you have to do a reset with the reset button and go into the router interface with user id: admin and user password: password, if this is the case don't forget to change it to something else!

all you have to do is to logon the router interface

if you see WEP are chosen the copy the key

if you see WPA/WPA2 are chosen then pass phrase will be ******.. this case make NEW one and update ALL the wifi devices
