As June said, you should definitely read around here - there's a ton of info.

That being said, I think this router is great. Sure, it has issues - alot actually - but it's really gonna depend on what you need and whether or not it's a show-stopper for you.

The biggest issue right now with this router is that the firmware lacks alot of advanced features. There are a couple of major issues too with features that caused all kinds of problems but were reportedly fixed in the latest firmware.

I tested the 3700 against several comparable products from other companies and ended up buying this one. From a raw performance standpoint, there's only a couple of devices on the market that even come close.

Netgear's firmware issues aren't unique. In fact, out of the big 3 or 4 manufacturers, only Linksys seems to have a mature firmware. However, their latest round of hardware flat SUCKS for range vs. performance in my experience.

I just purchased this router off a friend for 35 because he can't afford the internet anymore

I will be using it for gaming, internet browsing and wifi and hopefully this has a long range.. so will it have any issues regarding for my uses?

and I've been reading alot of threads about theres newer revisions so how do I know what revision I just bought?

If you don't have the original packaging, you probably won't ever know what rev it is.

There have been some reports of issues with the router freezing, possibly related to maxing out available TCP sessions. This is not confirmed. The two most-common users of TCP sessions are online games and peer-to-peer networking (aka torrents). So that's something to consider since you intend to game.

For browsing it works just like anything else - no issues that I've found and we have 6 PC's that surf. We have a mix of Vista Home, XP Pro SP3, and Win 7 Enterprise.

Finally, wifi is the reason I bought this router. As mentioned earlier, performance and range on the 2.4Ghz band simply crushed the other routers I tested in its price range. I haven't used the 5Ghz band as much and only at 54Mpbs, but the range is more than acceptable.

Those are my experiences.

There should also be a revision/build number on the box in the format 100-12345-xxRx.

I'm having range problems. It won't even go into the next room. It's 1/3rd the range of the $50 D-Link I bought six years ago that went end-of-life. It won't go through the wall to our bedroom. It won't go downstairs like the D-Link did. I'm going to do a separate post here and see if I can get to the bottom of the issue.

I think the latest version is xxR21.

My experiences are good to he honest.
I'd like the 5Ghz range to be a bit better but I don't think it's the routers fault, rather the nature of 5Ghz.

Online gaming is great and I steam to my xbox flawlessly as well.

Again, these are my experiences.
