I have two GS716T 16-port switches bought about a year apart. I am trying to update the firmware, but need to confirm the hardware version as the support site seems to leave some details up to the imagination.
![]() See Pic of my product labels. The older switch on bottom (in pic) indicates no version, so I'm guessing it's a v1. The newer unit (on top) indicates V1H2, is that a different version? Newer unit is a v1 unit because... -The main GS716T product support page page identifies its serial number range as being v1 hardware. - The HW ID tag of "V1H2" sorta just says "version 1" Newer unit is a v2 because... - Page that identifies 1DS units as v1, doesn't even include the s/n range of my other 716T, so how much can you trust its accuracy? ![]() - ONLY one support page refers to the hardware identifier in the same way that it's printed on the label V1H2 and that page supports a conclusion that it is a new hardware version which may use different firmware. So which is it? |

I could be wrong, but I think the current firmware version will give you a pretty good guess.
For instance mine does not say v2 and the firmware version is V1.1.6 The latest v1 hardware firmware version is V1.1.8 and the v2 hardware is using firmware V4.2.1.8 leading me to believe that I have v1 of the GS716T. |

As you can see in the pic of switches, my other 716T has a s/n that starts with 001, which according to the list doesn't exist, so the list is in fact NOT completely accurate. (not necessarily wrong, just don't know.) I also thought it could be a newer version because I bought them a year apart from Newegg (fresh stock) and because the exterior appearance, materials and even LED display panel are obviously updated. And because it has the same HW id "V1H2" as the seemingly parallel device the GS748T, which DOES in fact have higher than version 1.x firmware. However, with the stronger evidence supporting it, I was pretty sure that the switch was a V1, but of course it's prudent to confirm. The other reason was to point out that the page has information missing, (what ver. is a switch w/ S/N:001?) It also seems strange that the hardware identification page doesn't use the most definitive and simple identifier, the HW ID, found on the same label as the S/N! This Netgear GS748T support page smartly references this, leaving no questions. |
