We (dd-wrt community) are trying to nail down this dying 2.4Ghz problem. Trying to, hopefully, narrow it to a revision of the router having the problems. Maybe its a bad batch of routers or something has changed in the routers with that version. we dont know but need your input to gather more info on the problem.
If you are experiencing the dead 2.4 radio problem please post here with: *Revision of your router (found on the box near the upc, the last 5 digits. ex, mine is 01R13) *If you have installed dd-wrt on it. *If the problem appeared before flashing with dd-wrt, or after. Here is the current spreadsheet for reference: Here Thanks! |

for me it ALWAYS happened on the r15 model. even with stock firmware i have had 3 of them just go out. 2.4 worked and then it just didnt. no reason or anything. since changing them out to r21 i have yet to have any issues with this.
and no never even flashed any of the ones that died to ddwrt |

Everyone - just reply with details as requested, don’t post expecting help with an issue, if you need help then start a separate thread please.

For me the R15, was one headache after another. Ethernet port vanished, or would connect at 10M or 100M. The 2.4 radio would disconnect & then reconnect for no apparent reason.
The R17 I have now is OK after about 2 month of constant usage. Both 2.4 & 5 GHz are working without issue. |

most of the r15 were rev 3 boards im pretty sure yours has a rev 4 board on the r17 though its been a while since i opened the r17 i know the r18 was a rev 4 board for sure.

I got my WNDR3700 a long time ago and threw away the box a long time ago. Is there a way to tell the revision by looking at the router itself?

I threw my box out a while ago too, so I had no way of knowing either.
But this thread got me interested in knowing what revision my router is, should I ever run into any problems with it. So I removed the feet on the bottom, then I used a T9 Torx driver from Sears #41554 to remove each of the screws including the two in the middle. I then removed the bottom plate and carefully dropped the circuit board into my hand. On the top of the board, by the USB port, there will be some lettering silk screened there which will be what you are looking for. Mine was labeled as follows: FG400-004 RevC3 Dec 1608 2.4 GHz Then also on the other end of the Circuit Board on the right front, you'll see a rectangular section saying MAC with a white sticker near the edge of the board. On the Sticker there are some numbers and it also says Version 0. BTW..... For anyone wanting to add any antennas, there are at least four antenna taps on the circuit board around the large metal shielded section. ![]() -------- At some point, I may just try DD-WRT on this router as I have used it on a Linksys router in the past. I'm just waiting for it to mature a bit for this model first so as to make sure that most of the bugs are out of it before I gamble with this router.

I have a friend to whom I recommended the wndr3700. He received it with 2.4Ghz DOD. He hasn't installed DD-WRT on it, he just RMA-ed it, and got a new one. I don't know what revision he had.

For anyone who is keeping track of this thread (like me) and thinking "What revision is my Router, I have no box" Netgear has replied to my support request..
After 7 days they have told me this.. "Revision number of our devices are intended for internal use only, we don't release this info to customers." |
