Default Re: Classical Routing

You would be better off with a VLAN switch. You are really not protecting the work PC with your setup.

The 318 will work in Classical Routing Mode.

Your problem is Routing from LAN (2.x) to LAN (1.x) to the Internet.

Post screenshots of what you have setup.

Ping and Traceroute from 2.x to 1.x and 2.x to 4.2.2.2 and list the results.

Are you talking about using a VLAN switch in place of the 318g, or are you talking about using a VLAN switch with the 318g?

I was thinking of using a VLAN switch instead of the router, BUT the Uverse router would still try to assign IPs to the PCs that are on the 192.168.2.x segment even if they were in a seperate VLAN wouldn't it?

I saw your post on subnets NOT to use, but the again the Uverse router only gives me options to use subnets in that list!

You would use the VLAN switch instead of the 318.

The VLAN switch will serve it's own DHCP (or you can use the server) and block DHCP from the Uverse router. You'll have to isolate the IP's based on the range you can use.

You may be limited to using IP's in the 1.x range (split the IP's up, half for each, 1-128 & 129-256) due to limitations in the Uverse router. You'll have to check the options in the Uverse DHCP server.

I've never been inside of one so I don't know the capabilities. Post screenshots of each config page in the Uverse if you'd like us to take a look at it.

Thank you ADIT, I will give the VLAN switch setup a shot tonight. I have a Netgear GS108T that I can use.
