Problem with Wireless Adapter or Access Point

I have just bought a new Sony Vaio Laptop complete with Windows 7 Home Premium. I use a Netgear DG834GT Wireless Router which is hard wired to my Desk top Computer.
When I try to connect to my Lap Top using the Wireless feature, it displays the Router as being visible with good connection speed, but when I click the Connect button, it displays the following - Problem Found - Problem with Wireless Adapter or Access Point.
I have tried everything I can think of to connect, but without any success, could anyone please suggest an answer to my problem?

I can connect using an Ethernet Cable, I have tried to connect without any Security, have tried with WAP and/or WEP security enabled,
I have tried to connect using another Laptop under its Sharing capability, I have run all the diagnoistic checks available with Windows 7, I have entered the Vaio's MAC address under Access Control and I have updated my Router to the latest firmware, so far, all to no avail.
Any other suggestions will be most gratefully received.

try to disable access control instead of just adding the MAC address.

If you know the settings on "basic settings" and the VCI VPI value of this modem, try to reset it to factory default and then try connecting again.

first, this router is 108Mbps, login the router and change to B&G mode and use WPA, WPA2 or WPA+WPA2. Any that supports on this router other than WEP.

do not use ACL(access list )

Thanks for your reply, I have tried to connect with Access Control activated and disabled but still does not work.
I do not know the factory default settings of the VCI & VPI, but the current settings are 0 and 38.

Have you any further suggestions?

Many thanks for your suggestions.

The Router is set to G&B mode and I have tried using WPA and WPA2 as well as disabling the security setting, but it still does not connect.
My Router is displayed on the LapTop and it states that Signal Strength is excellent and it is Radio Type 802.11g and shows the SSID of the Router but just will not connect, so very frustrating.

Would welcome any other ideas I can try.

Thanks for the continued help. The wireless network adaptor is an Atheros AR9285. Is this what you meant?

it is N card so at least B&G mode should have helped

make suer you are not using access list in the router
