Default Computer doesnt read router.

I have a Netgear N150 wireless router and I am having trouble setting it up on my computer. I am currently connected to the internet through a wired connection from my modem. When I connect the router to the computer for set up it keeps saying "the ethernet adapter is either disabled or no ethernet adapter is installed on this computer" but the computer reads the modem because that how I get to the internet. How can I set up this router?

it is not getting IP from the router

ipconfig will show current IP that pc has. if it is not 192.x.x.x IP then do below

try ipconfig /release
ipconfing /renew

behind the router.

start reading the IP and compare what you should be getting

try ipconfig /release
ipconfing /renew

if you have 169.x.x IP then pc and router is NOT communicating
