Default EVA8000 & Sky Router

Hi,

I have just switched to sky broadband and they have supplied me with their own D-link DSL 2640S router.

When I use the router, after about 6 or 7 mins the EVA reboots itself. When I plug my old router (Netgear) back in, its works fine but then I dont have the net.

According to skys T&C's im not allowed to use any other router for broadband.

Any work arounds to allow me to use skys router and still have my EVA working? Can I not use a switch or hub??

You can also try double-routing - that is, connect the netgear router to the sky router, and keep your original network configuration behind it. If you use services that require opening firewall ports (such as torrents), you can put your PC in the "DMZ" of the netgear router, to prevent double firewalling.

An easier solution might be to simply disable DHCP on the Netgear router, then use just the switch portion of the Netgear router. Connect one cable from a switch port on the NG router to the D-link. Connect another switch port to the EVA. And you might also want to connect your media storage (NAS, PC, etc..) to a third switch port on the router. Just make sure you are not using the WAN or internet port on the NG router.

Yes.

Do you think its likely that the physical ethernet connection is breaking the EVA? I've never seen any postings here suggesting that kind of issue. I think its more likely to be something the new router is sending to it. So I doubt that deploying a switch (either the old router LAN ports or a standalone switch) will solve the crash. Though it is something that is easy to try.

If the SKY router has a setting for UPNP, I would start by turning it off.

Might also be worth a try to put the EVA in the DMZ of the Sky Router - it is possible that the router firewall is intercepting an EVA request and making an unexpected/malformed response. For instance, the nntp time service or the weather retrieval.

Cheers for this guys.

Sorry for the delayed response. So far this is working. Im using the netgear to do all the work whilst the Sky router is just providing the net access.

Will keep you posted if anything changes.
