Default Wirelss signal suddenly very weak - is my router dead?

All was working fine when I went to bed last night. This morning when I woke up my laptop was disconnected and was not finding the wireless network at all. I went to a wired computer and everything was working fine. After trying this and that, I moved my laptop to about 7 feet from the router and it was able to see the network. From the laptop's normal location in my kitchen, inSSIDer 2.0 now shows an RSSI of -86. Normally when the laptop is sitting in that spot it's about -67. It gets to -70 when I move the laptop to about 5 feet from the router with no walls between, and I have to put it about a foot away from the router to get to the -60s. I've turned the 5 GHz radio off, but that doesn't change anything. Have tried hard resetting the router and reconfiguring -- no luck changing the situation. In order to get Internet today, I've set my old Belkin N router back up for now and it seems to be working normally.

So does it appear the router is physically broken? Any ideas on what else to try?

Whats the revision? Early models do infact have radio problems.

It was reported somewhere that if you set the radio to 150Mbps, reset, and then set it back to 300Mpbs, it fixed the issue for some people. It's worth a shot.

Do you mean revision of the actual physical hardware? How would I know? As for firmware, I'm currently running 1.0.4.68. 1.0.6.98 messed up my Exchange e-mail account, as did 1.0.4.92, which Support gave me to try for the Exchange issue. So I'm back to 1.0.4.68 and all was working fine. Have had the router since March 5, and this signal strength issue is brand new.

I was already running at 130 Mbps, so I tried the reverse. No luck -- still low signal.

I basically see the same neighbors around me that have been there for months. I've tried manually setting my router's channel to 3 or 4 different ones but I get no improvement.

Have you been upgrading/downgrading the firmware? If so, you may have to do a hard reset to regain the functionality of the router. Find and review the post on 'Restoring the Router to Factory Defaults' . . .

I followed the instructions meticulously, but to no avail. I'm back using the Belkin until I get some more advice.
