Default WPN824 V2 Smartwizard not detecting internet

Hi, I'm trying to set up my dad's netgear WPN824 V2 in my apartment but every time I try to use the smart wizard to detect the connection it gives me a message saying "No Internet Connection Detected Please Check the Connections to the Internet WAN Port and Cable/DSL Modem." Everything is connected the wireless light is blinking so I don't know what to do at this point. Things to note I had to restart because I didn't know his password and I'm running windows 7 if that could be an issue/security issue. Another thing to note is that my roommate has a Netgear WNR1000 setup in his room and it setup perfectly without any problems.

Sorry if this isn't the right thread, just let me know if I should post elsewhere.

not sure how is your room mate, dad's router in my apartment but in one single apartment you have at least two router's going to install and each one goes directly to the outlet with network ports which goes to apartment network to feed of broadband?

I'm not seeing clearly...

Yes that is what is going on. We each have ports in our room. I'm trying to set up this router to sub it out for my roommates router.
