Default Flashing ethernet light -- connected device is off?

Hi

I searched a bit but couldn't find a post on this issue so I figured I'd ask. Sorry if it has been covered elsewhere.

I just bought a WNDR3700 and I have a Linksys NAS200 which I periodically turn off.

When the NAS is on, the WNDR3700 has a solid amber light on the connected port (100Mb connection) and all seems well.

When the NAS is off, the router LED flashes at random intervals and everything seems much slower. Tonight I had to reboot the router to get any reasonable connection on 2.5G (although 5G seemed fine).

FTR, I'm running 1.0.4.75NA firmware (I believe the router came with .68).

Any ideas? Is there away to adjust the Ethernet port sensitivity? I believe the NAS probably doesn't have the correct impedance when off for the router or something similar and the router thinks the device is connected.

I've had several other Linksys routers over the years and have not had any issues so I believe the NAS is working correctly. Hopefully there is a fix for this other than leaving the NAS on all the time.

Thanks,

shawnss

I looked for a WOL feature on the NAS but there is nothing and there is no provision for a scheduled startup so I believe when its shutdown its really off.

Any other ideas?

Pull the power plug and it will turn off.
Some pc's or servers keep the ethernet port powered while the device is off.

In that case I will not worried about it still. Power is still applied on Ethernet portion. You find on laptop, desktop also do the same

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. The router does not see the device at all if I pull the power plug but when I plug it back in it goes back to the same "blinking" amber state.

Given that my NAS is in a bookshelf and the power plug is on a power bar behind the shelf its pretty inaccessible.

Its not really practical to pull the plug and its almost easier to pull the ethernet connection. Neither of which I really want to do on a regular basis.

Is there anyway to turn down the threshold impedance or sensitivity that the router uses to determine an unused port?

Thanks

But the problem is that the router is trying to access the port (blinking amber light means trying to communicate and establish IP right?).

Could just be me but things do seem quite a bit slower (more latency doing almost anything) when in this state.

Thanks for your input,

Shawnss

It not the router that keep the Ethernet alive. It's on NAS side.
Also it should not effect the network anyway
