by using a hex editor and changing the v1 firmware around a bit i did get it to load onto the v2 but after a reboot it was bricked. so i had to bring it back to life with the 0.8 firmware.. so it is possible if you really want to lol but it will brick the router..im still experimenting to see why though because there is so minimal changes it really should work imo

It sounds like you purchased a NA unit?...
Support may email you a "fix" for it, open a case with them and see what they say.. Sadly admitting your unit has crossed borders might make them uneager to help you ;(...

I think the location tag is found in the calibration data of the unit and I dont know how to update it.

That sounds like way too much trouble. I think I will just have to live with the fact I lose two channels. I guess it's one of those things you risk when you buy a product not meant for your market.

One thing that annoys me in general is the lack of functionality on these firmwares...D Link are a lot better at making firmware that really lets you go in and tweak things. For the rest it seems that they assume:

1) everyone is stupid so shouldnt fiddle with advanced settings
2) lets cut out useful functions so we can put it in a later, more expensive router which...oh! we'll market as different....but with near identical hardware!

You really can't get away with this in other consumer electronics that easily so why routers??

Not really. I crossed the border from Canada to buy it in Washington State a few weeks back and am back in Shanghai now where I work so no longer in NA. Plus I dont think this model is out in China so no help from netgear hear.

It's strange as the majority of consumer electronics are made here but we generally get it last

Yes, D-Link is pretty good about feature-rich firmware. They also traditionally have ALOT of problems with firmware bugs and other imperfections. It's a Catch 22.

Netgear has always had a solid reputation for devices that "just work". Ironically the biggest reason this 3700 is such a hot mess is because they added new "luxury" features like Readyshare and Traffic Meter. As a router alone, it can't be beat.

Send a msg to support and ask them if they can request it for you.. State simply that your job required you to move and it wasnt ment as a "import/export" type of jobbie.

The router companys should put these limits in if they want to avoid legal troubles later down the road.. JimJob's moves to another country, selects a band used by the military airforce, and a flight drone crashes over his home.. Who is liable? (okay, probably a bit TOO extreme, but you can see why they would rather just lock it and be done).
