Hi Xed,

Hmm. Are you seeing the problem when you leave standby or on full power up? Does the crash happen every time you leave standby, or only sometimes? After the crash, when you restart do you get a message that a serious error has occurred?

I'm assuming you're running 293. Have you tried disabling DLNA to see if that is related? (Settings -> System -> Advanced)

Thanks,
Jon

Most recent crash (on 293) occurred as follows:

My spouse came home from work the other night, I had music playing through my AV, which is also pumped to another receiver upstairs thru a "Zone 2" output my main AV connected to the NeoTV.

She turned off the AV in the Zone 2, and I haven't touched anything on the NeoTV since that time, so in theory it should have been still trying to play the playlist that I fed it the other night, which was the directory with 1000 FLAC files in it.

When I came downstairs a few minutes ago, I turned on my receiver and TV and the NeoTV was still on all of this time (2 days), but no display so I had to pull the power on the device again to get it to reboot.

I will check if DLNA is setup, I have no use for it really since my TV is an older generation of LCD. No crashes detected, that I could submit through the GUI.

DLNA was enabled (with Play To), I have since disabled and restarted the device.

I also tried turning off my AV (all HDMI connects) while music was playing to see if that might cause the NeoTV to crash. It did not, in the short term (10-30 seconds) and resumed playing when the AV was turned on again.

i too see this behavior when i dont have anything plugged in (usb, esata, SD)
the first time i noticed it i did have a usb stick plugged in the front (used to flash to .293 firmware) so i removed it to see if that was the cause.. it still happens even after removing the usb drive.. and i dont have anything connected to esata or the SD slot.. so i reverted back to previous firmware

Thanks

Mike

Hi Mike,

After the crash did you get a message to send the error to Netgear? If so if you could PM me your MAC address that would help tracking this down.

Thanks,
Jon

no i never got a crash or error (that ive seen anyway) since there is no video signal and couldnt see the screen.... i needed to unplug the ntv550.. after that it would start normally.. also i have since downgraded the firmware (didnt want to have to unplug the device everytime i wanted to use it)

i would upgrade again to .293 and do some testing for you, however i am leaving on vacation for 2 weeks so i wont have time..(sorry)

if you want i can do some testing when i return if you still need the info at that time..

let me know

Michael Taylor

This is a real problem with the unit, multiple people have raised the issue.
It has nothing to do with USB connectivity and as noted in other threads on this topic an issue in the HDMI Handshake logic.

I get the problem resuming from standby, when the player is idle (having just completed a video), with a USB or no USB connected.

Making an assumption that the USB issue is being highlighted because it is the only way to obtain logging (i can supply these if needed).

People have raised this issue with Panasonic tv's before but i have a pioneer and still get the problems.
This issue needs resolving asap as it makes the unit fundamentaly flawed and am at the point of giving up with it.

I can email logs if required?

So I tried to disable DLNA using the interface. It asked me to reboot and I did, then left the unit playing FLAC files, for a couple of days (muted upstairs most of the time and with the main AV receiving the audio from the NeoTV cycled on and off multiple times). It did not crash over the course of those two days. But when I went back in to check the DLNA settings, it was showing as Enabled again.

I manually tried forcing the settings back to Disabled, and rebooted again and it sill shows as Enabled. Since then, I set it again to Disabled, without rebooting cause I didn't see a point in trying again.

Hi Xed,

Hmm. I will check that, the UPNP setting should be sticking of course.

To everyone,

Of course, the resume from standby problem is a big concern to us. It is certainly possible it is related to HDMI handshaking, but in that case I would expect the problem to happen more consistently. From the reports here, it sounds like the problem is more likely to occur over time.

That sounds more like a crash, while the unit is in standby. DLNA is one of the only active components during standby, so it would be good to rule this out.

If anyone is able to capture this problem on a log, then we will be able to get more information on HDMI handshake. When the system log is enabled (the unit must be started with the system log enabled), we are loading special versions of the HDMI components. They produce much more debugging output.

Thanks,
Jon
