I have an HP pavillion notebook and just bought the WNDR3700 v2 router(mainly for HD streaming of movies through the xbox), but the laptop will only connect if my wireless setting is set to WEP and teh 2.4 Ghz channel is the only one it sees...is this due to the network adapter on the laptop? My PS3 also will only see the 2.4 channel and not the 5
thanks for any replys |

@rrmcguire,
The PS3 does not support 811.2n, and only operates at 2.4Ghz. For the laptop, check out device manager, and see which brand and model your wireless adapter is, and check if it supports the 5 Ghz band. Most laptop wireless adapters only support 2.4 Ghz. |

Can you only get WPA security with laptops which support 5 ghz bands...the wireless adapter is an atheros 802.11 for an HP Pavilion notebook

To add to what was mentioned earlier, the PS3 only supports 2.4 GHz (b/g) and does support WPA2-PSK [AES].

that seems to be the problem though with my HP Pavilion I can only connect to the 2.4 band and a netgear support rep had me set it to WEP to get it to connect to the internet wirelessly, when I have it set to WPA for the 2.4 band that laptop will not connect.

What OS are you using?..
And what radio card is it?.. View your network in devices to see what the radio card is, or look on the bottom of your latpop. |
