Default Newbie Installing a FVG318 w/o DHCP and with static IP. Help

I'm a programmer got thrown into supporting the network infrastructure. So a very green newbie.

Installing the FVG318 firewall. Using an Adtran 908e T1 modem from the ISP. Currently using static IPs w/o a DHCP. The FVG318 manual only talks about having a DHCP and dynamically issued IPs. Is the FVG318 firewall compatible with the current environment? Thanks.

Joe

If by compatible you mean can you configure a static public ip address, then yes, it is.

As a matter of fact, there should be a setup wizard in the interface that will walk you through it, provided you have the necessary addresses to enter - you need to get the following from your ISP.

a) your public ip address
b) subnet mask
c) upstream gateway address
d) dns server address #1
e) dns server address #2

Most ISPs will have more than one DNS server, you really only need one, but redundancy is a good thing.

Joe

1. check with your ISP that Adtran is in bridge mode or able to passthrough public IP to your own router.
2. if the adtran is already able to push public IP then hook up the router. If you ISP does NOT require static IP for T-1 service which usually is and your DHCP mentioning likely from Adtran is functioning as router mode.

so find out from ISP for your IP, gateway, DNS and once you login the router, go to network configuration such as below demo

http://interface.netgear-forum.com/F...wan1_setup.htm

and entire correct value and you should be good..
