Default Wireless connection problems

First, please understand that I am NOT tech savvy. I have a wireless NETGEAR that was installed for me by someone else. Each and every time I turn on my laptop, it will not show up in the list of available WiFi devices. I have to unplug the device, plug it back up, wait a minute or two, and then it will show up in the list and I can choose it to connect. Same with my iphone - when I turn WiFi on, it will show up in the list but I get the message that "NETGEAR cannot connect" - I have to unplug the device then plug it back in and wait about 2 minutes. Then when I choose it from the list, it connects. Once I'm connected, I'm fine until I shut down my laptop or turn off my iphone. Then we start this process all over again. Why is this happening and how can I fix it??

pc's power management for network adapter needs to be adjusted to not sleep if pc is going sleep or hibernation mode. if you are shutting the down pc instead you should see that wireless connection may be more stable to use. give that a try to see if that make any difference. you will know then you need to adjust as suggested.

iphone /itouch all go standby sometime this happens across around different models

always POST the model of the router. likely you have NOT posted in right area

I am having a similar problem; I use a Mac OS 10.6.7; many times in the afternoon, the connection is dropped from my router, and I can't get it back without hours of clicking join and typing in my password. Anyone help me here? I have been using this Rangemax for about 8 years. Do they wear out?

Thanks. I downloaded and will take a look. How do I find out if I need a firmware upgrade? When I click on the button on the router page, it can't connect.
