I've successfully setup port forwarding for ssh traffic so that I can connect to my Linux box externally, but the session appears to timeout after 30 mins of inactivity. I can successfully connect on my internal network for an any amount of time, so looks definitely looks to be the router setup.
Does anyone know how to stop the timeout? TIA |

make sure idle timeout is set to "0" in the router's basic settings

I don't think this is not rare question be asked. I know SSH timeout has been asked before. Not sure the same model , same V# but I would search the thread on this.

I haven't solved the timeout problem from the Netgear side, but I have found that my terminal client (SecureCRT) can send a no-op signal every 5 mins to keep the session alive. Not exactly the fix I wanted, but does the job, and worth noting if anyone else has the problem in future.
