Default SRXN3205 Upgrade?

The SRXN3205 has been around for a couple of years. I am considering getting one but the price keeps dropping. Does anyone see a replacement for this coming out before the end of this year. Perhaps something with the dual core 400mhz processor, some additional memory, the ability to do simultaneous dual band wireless, and guest wireless networks.

I checked the prosecure site. I do not see any of these devices that provide wireless capabilities. Do you think there is a market for a next-gen device that will replace the SRXN3205. I currently have a WNDR3700 and was looking at the SRXN3205 as an upgrade to provide me with some additional security and VPN functionality but hate to lose the other features that the 3700 has such as the simultaneous dual band wireless and the guest networks.

I know Netgear is in the business of selling hardware, but I think a single device that combines the features and functionality of the WNDR3700 and the SRXN3205 would be a great product. Then if they could extended it to provide the modem functionality of a CG3000, then you are looking at the ultimate all-in-one device.

most business setup uses additional AP instead of all in one since it requires multiple AP therefore you will find less

So from the sound of things, you are not aware of any future plans around a replacement for the SRXN3205.

We regards to it's current functionality, I do have a question. I am curious if the SRXN3205 can be configured in the following way. 1. As a VPN client so that all outbound traffic will leave over a PPTP firewall to another network. 2. As a VPN server so that end users with the proper client can connect directly to the network protected by this device. 3. As a dyndns configured port forwarder so that request for that domain on certain ports will be allowed in without being connected to the VPN. Do you know if the SRXN3205 can be configured for all of these at the same time?

remember forum is user to user so likely you will not find specific data unless netgear will tell you directly

prosafe only support ipsec VPN only

???

this router is VPN termination capable so any compatible ipsec VPN client will able to connect and access the it

opening the ports is security bleach but using dynamic ip or dynds alias would not make any difference if service ports and inbound rules is setup correctly. rest is based on firewall on LAN pc if it can keep can up with exploits.

Most businesses go with the router and have separate wireless access points. Many times the location of the router is not in the best place for wireless coverage.

Default Re: SRXN3205 Upgrade?

greetings at all,

@j6harri
surely you are right at the position with your wishes.
- a real DMZ port
- capability´s to set up guest vlan´s
- everybody´s darling, a build in radius server for WLAN client´s
- more RAM
- higher CPU rates and all so on, but hey, take it easy guy.

Look if a company is bringing out even new devices, they don´t take care for having a fine done firmware, to point it hard and correctly by the way is that this device is still working very fine for me and if i see they bringing out some new firmware to fix some known issues or by the wish of any customers that will be better thing as all new features will be integrated and more trouble occurs.

At last this device owns SMA connectors perhaps you try out some new antennas they will fitting on this and they are supported by Netgear so you have, even the chance to hook up the WLAN in a vlan area build by a switch from the smart switch family of netgear likes the JGS524E and if dont know what to do at long winter evenings or your regular free time, set up a little embedded box likes soekris, alix or MikroTik with freeradius, zeroshell or MikroTik RouterOS so you have all done and served your wishes a little bit.

But the never ending dream from a higher and more powerful cpu and more ram that is faster don´t fix cause dreams and wishes are fuel of the hole mankind
