Why can't I set MTU as 1500? 1458 Max?

1492 or 1500 is common default value but makes any huge differences because you can not use 1500

If I change to PPPoE the router will allow me to to set the MTU to 1492. My ISP uses an MTU value of 1500. |

Yes.
Following a call on Friday, it is currently set to 1400 as I have been experiencing lots of problems with the connection not being very stable using the default value of 1458. Whilst I've been doing other things this weekend, and not hammering my LAN or Internet connection, it has at least stayed stable during this time. Even the person on the support desk didn't realise that I couldn't set the MTU to 1492. |
