Default WNDR3400 with Vista Problem "Local Only"

Hi,
Anyone have a problem whereby they can't connect to the internet wirelessly with MS Vista? It's an HP Desktop with a wireless card that has the problem.

I've successfully been connecting with my Wii, a Windows 7 laptop, an XP laptop, and an android phone - - -I just don't know what gives with the Vista Computer.

I tried reserving an IP address on the router for the computer which works for the local connection (as well as the router assigning the IP automatically), but it will NOT go through to the net.

I've updated the wireless card drivers and firmware of the router. I'll have to try tech support if anyone does not have any suggestions.

I'm only on the computer right now using someone in the neighborhood's unsecured Netgear router. I was using WPA2 whether that matters or not.

WPA2 will not work with older wifi cards

If you still are getting IP from the router using WPA2 then you can try using ISP DNS server on pc side.

you find where to put any DNS showing in URL

Thanks for the response! How old is too old, the computer is about 5 years old.

Would getting a USB wireless adaptor be an easy fix? Rather than routing an actual cable or replacing network card (or waiting for Charter tech support).

Years has much to any more. Every wifi products so different and not all are the same

If wifi is connected but no Internet then try suggests to change DNS

You will not get local only if wfi is not connected so encryption is fine
