I'm the original poster, and it certainly wasn't 3 years ago, more like 3 weeks ago

Not sure what I did, but I don't have the problem anymore. I wish I could be more helpful, but the only thing different is the latest firmware, and I assume you wouldn't be asking this question without updating the firmware first.

I still have this problem. I have the latest firmware (as of today) and I'm getting the same issues. I've tried reformatting the SD card and the back USB flash drive, resetting the whole device, etc. It's all still pretty screwy. I'm using WHS 2011 with the My Movies add-in.

Don't think its related to SD cards. my cache is stored on the NAS and it has always done this. The oddity is that the image change regularly.

I managed to play Bluray menu video with all menus and no problem or messages, but that's about it (also tried it only 2 times).
As to image cache - no luck. After installing the new firmware I rerun the setups, reformatted the SDHC card on Neo, and specified it as image cache location and Bluray cache location. Even run the scan of all media content (at that point - attached USB back drive with 2TB SATA 3.5 disk in external drive). And here we go - again some images (movie covers under "folder.jpg") are shown, some not. For some files it takes a poster of some specific movie and shows it for all, though it is not even in that directory. After Neo restart (from remote control - with option of full shutdown, not standby) it even started to show some broken images (some parts ok, some pixeled out - as if it was a bad picture scan or smth).
Tried both in Videos - Browse folders mode and All files - Browse folders mode.
Also - after trying this BD menu video and returning to file mode - got a "Warning: Image cache is not accessible" message that disappeared after a while.

So still no solution to this..
I have the same problem!
FW: 3.2.16
Cache: SD Card SanDisk 4GB Ultra Speed (formatted by neotv550 f.s. EXT3)
HDD: Laice 500 GB 2.5"

Every time Neotv load partial folder.jpg in the wall for some movies.
Every times appers this neotv message : "Warning : image cache not accessible".

Any idea?

Hi all,
Having the same issue and the only work around was to power cycle the netgear 550 and it all comes good for a while.

Hi, I have solved this problem.
Image cache with HDD USB and Bluray cache with SD card.

Bye.

I'm experiencing the same problem but it only occurs for me after a scan of my NAS collection. I have no directly connected media containing movies but only a USB thumb drive for cache.

If I power cycle my 550 the problem goes away and all of my thumbs are correct. I've been adding content to my NAS quite a bit lately so hopefully I'll have a chance to see if this problem occurs after a while without a scan. We'll see.

I agree that the thumb view on the 550 needs some tweaking by the developers.

I'm still happy though with the speed of the GUI of the 550. The WDTV I have is slow as a snail. My Popcorn Hour a-300 has the best thumb view/gui that I've tested but the damn thing won't play most of my Blu-ray ISO's with full menu support while the 550 has played them flawlessly!

The Blu-Ray titles I had problems with are listed below. Note that these would play on my 550. Also keep in mind that it can depend on how you rip your movies and with what settings you may or may not have ticked. I use AnyDVD. Some of these titles I ripped many different ways but still was unable to play them with full menu support. None of the titles below are 3D.

Avatar
Bad Boys
American Gangster
Office Space
Most of my Star Wars titles would not play with full menus
Cars 2
Minority Report
Rise of the Planet of the Apes
300
Skyline
Cop Out
Haunted Mansion

There were more but I don't recall them at the moment. Some of the titles above like Minority Report, Bad Boys and American Gangster would not play at all. Not even with Simple Menu but all have played on the 550.

Check out this thread in regards to the problem. Its a known issue and Popcorn hour specifically mentions full menu support on their website but its just not the case. They mention that a license is required to play full menus. My question is this; does the 500 have a license to play them? I doubt it. I think the problem is in the software design. Just my 2 cents.

@8bit
In my opinion the lack of a column as Peter Tiang in Syabas dev team, is showing its negative effects.
