Yesterday, I turned off the box and came back about an hour later to turn it on and now it just blinks rapidly. It pops up on the screen with the initial Netgear logo screen and then nothing. Screen goes blank and the light continues to flash. I have tried the TV button on the remote. I have tried Recovery Mode re-flash. I have tried resetting and I have connected the box directly to the TV in case it was an HDMI problem. Anyone got any other ideas? I had simply been playing a movie prior to turning off, so nothing that should have caused a catastrophic failure.

Ouch, it sounds bricked.
You might try removing the power adapter for an hour or so. With the older EVA, this sometimes resurrected what appeared to be a dead unit. If you have another identically spec'd adapter that fits, it might be worth a go. If you are very lucky, a bad adapter could be the problem. |

Thanks for the advice. I tried the adapter trick too. I think the unit may still be under warranty so I might need to give Netgear a call. Back to MediaBrowser I go (for now anyways).

Sorry if this double posts, but I can't see my last reply, so...
My NTV550 has this exact same problem except mine *DOES* boot if I remove the network cable. Once it's booted, I can re-insert the cable and all is fine. I also have to diable the bluray cahce or some bluray isos will hang when I try to play them. I have a query with tech support at the moment. Let me know if removing the network cable while booting works for you. |

Try the following:
1. Unplug Power Cable 2. Unplug Network Cable 3. Plug Power Cord In 4. Disable DLNA 5. Plug in network cable. 6. Insure tha the NetBios name is unique if you have multiple NeoTV550's connected to your network. To disable DLNA exit from the menu after making the change. There is not a OK button to accepot the change. Once you so this page will come up asking if it is OK to reboot. Select OK. This has worked on my three NeoTV550's that I have. |

Thank you to everyone that posted. The solution indeed was to remove the network cable and power the unit back up. Strange issue for sure and hopefully one that will be solved by future firmware (not that I am holding out much hope at this point).

Had exactly the same yesterday... Netgear support told me it was likely hardware, so a new unit is being shipped...

My 11-month-old 550 just died. Well, I suppose it could be the AC adapter, but it doesn't light up in response to the remote or remote. It's not connected to a network but I've tried disconnecting the external drives and reconnecting the power and tried different outlets for the AC adapter. No joy. I just submitted a service claim against it and hopefully they'll either replace it, fix it or give me an idea to try that I haven't already tried. Otherwise, the units are down in price a bit (Amazon had them at $109) and there are new Popcorn Hour (A300) and Dne (HD Smart H1) units that sound promising. We'll see! I've sure enjoyed the 550 (other than having to rescan my several thousand songs and a couple hundred videos every time I add something to one of the drives or lose power - I sure wish they'd cache that information to the internal memory they don't have or to the SD card!).
