In the Era of Windows95, I had 1.44MB disk with complete Realtime Linux with all the GUI, Router modules, and almost all set of commands and utilities which i used as a router, See now Firmwares have Grown in the range of 7MB, So someone somewhere is not working Efficiently but writing Bloatwares instead of firmwares, Regarding the Review of this FW 1.0.0.12 it will take sometime to see its Behavior.

I'll try it out as the router is really unusable right now and I don't care trying for a RMA due to Danish limitations on the warenty and the price tag for the seller just taking a look at the thing.

Hi, got it running with Gargoyle (using the ar71xx image (gargoyle_1.4.3-ar71xx-wndr3700v2-squashfs-factory)) without any problems - actually a bit faster to load than a new NetGear firmware.

The Gargoyle GUI is quite simple and straight-forward to configure - only thing I currently are going to miss seems to be the "guest network" function.

So, I'll give it a chance more - and if it dosn't behave, well, I may use the hammer yet (as an example to the replacement router; this is what happens when a router isn't stable)

I'm still experiencing the same dropouts as before. Updated firmware from 1.0.0.8 to 1.0.0.12. Factory reset router. Reconfigured router, no backup/restore used. Reconnected all clients.

I have a long download going from Supernews. I'm seeing dropouts to 0 mbps every few minutes at random. Confirmed with Cox cable that cable modem is performing correctly. Logs show no drops or resets other than user-initiated ones.

This problem occurs on 2.4 and 5.2 ghz radios as well as wired connections. This leads me to believe that the issue is between to router and the cable modem.

Any ideas, anyone?

Thanks!

And lo and behold; it functions like I expected, as the stable and quite powerful router that it is.
Go to http://www.gargoyle-router.com/, look through the forum and you will see that quite a few more WNDR3700 owners took the same route and are quite satisfied they did! The router itself is quite good, but alas (sorry for the NetGear folks) the original firmware sucks!
Sorry, but Gargoyle and any OpenWRT/DDWRT are a total fail if you are using some wireless devices with them (Android/Some laptops and Macbooks).

For example my Android will stop streaming/downloading any data a min after the screen goes off. Checking the syslogs you will see
Quote:
"daemon.info hostapd: wlan0: STA xx:xx:xx:xx:da:63 IEEE 802.11: deauthenticated due to inactivity"
There is NO inactivity, it was streaming/downloaded when it happens.

This has been an ongoing issue since the early backfire releases, and tickets keep getting opened and closed on it with no resolution. We have OpentWRT saying its Androids fault and Android saying its OpenWRT (and any backfire derivative as Gargoyle is).

Clearly its not as it will work just perfectly with Netgear's Stock Firmware (Which is a custom OpenWRT I know).

Now I am not trying to pump up or promote Netgear's Stock Firmware either.. its ugly, the features (esp IpV6) suck, but for a standard use it works, and works way better with my wireless devices than OpenWRT or Gargoyle.

I have been messing with this issue now for over a week and a half, working with some community releases, trying tons of different firmwares/Roms and they all do the same..

You either lose connectivity or revert your 2.4ghz Wireless to b only or disable WMM on the router... (which is the same as setting it to G only 54mbs only on Wireless)..

I'd love to see if you have any fixes for it, because they are not there..

I've diligently updated my firmware and have experienced my internet connections drop more frequently with each upgrade. I took the advice from this other thread called: "WNDR3700 Internet Problems - Let's compare notes" The folks had issues with 3700v1 routers and after much discussion determined it was an issue with the firmware. I'll admit I'm a network novice but it makes sense.

The router worked great when I first bought it so I figure I'd start from the beginning. I reverted to the base firmware V1.0.0.6

Download available on the 3700v2 download page -- make sure you click the button to "show all versions." Hope this helps.

I'll keep you posted on drops.

Default WNDR3700v2 1.0.0.12 Firmware

Wow, how do you diagnose the DNS hang. I have RMA'd and upgraded to .12and still wired and wireless devices drop internet, no one can give me an answer. I am ready to administer a hammer to this router and go back to another vendor.

How does your router behave after you reverted the firmware?

I bought a 3700v2 last week and after I setup the router, the router GUI prompted me to upgrade the firmware to 1.0.0.12.

I do experience browsing interruptions. Until I read this forum, I thought it was issue with my Blackberry Playbook, slow sites, etc.

Please advise me. I purchased a wndr3700v2 a week ago before reading these forums. I've just started looking at some posts and it appears that this model has many problems. I haven't experienced any, yet, but I'm wondering if I should return it while I still can (14-day return).

Is this model so problematic that I should return it?

Not in my experience. As a matter of fact the WNDR3700 v1 and v2 have been two of the best consumer routers/AP I've used.
