I had a "special version" of the firmware from Oct 2011 that supported my 3TB drive. The USB performance was about 1.5M/s and was terrible.
I assumed that patches confirmed by customers would be in subsequent releases... WRONG. Lost my 3TB support and now I can't find my magic firmware that I had gotten before. Can someone help? Todd |

I've had a WNDR 3700 for 13 months. It quits working after about being powered up for about 3 hours. If I power it down and let it sit for 20-30 minutes, it will work again for 2-3 hours, then die again. Usually, the Internet connection LED goes from green to yellow. Sometimes all LEDs, except the power LED, go completely off.
Anyone know if the firmware update will fix this, or is this a common problem with the 3700? I don't see any version number on the factory label. I was going to replace this 3700 with the new WNDR 4500, but looking at the 4500 forum, it appears that model has some serious problems also. If the firmware update will fix this problem, I'd love to keep it, but I need to do something quick. Thanks ahead of time for the help and I appreciate any suggestions. Tom |

Sounds like a heat issue. If that's the cause, a firmware change won't help. If the router doesn't have a version number, then you have a v1 and this is a thread for the v2 version of the router. Have you checked the power supply? Is it getting hot? Do you have a DVM to test the power supply under load? Is the router unusually hot when it stops working?
If the power supply is the cause of the issue, there isn't anything especially unique about replacing it with something new. All you would have to do is make sure that the replacement has the same output voltage, the watts available are equal or greater, the barrel connector is the correct size and has the correct polarity.

Most (if not all) Netgear PSUs are regulated. If an unregulated supply is used as a replacement then this could damage the router.

power supply is the original factory power supply. Voltage is spot-on when checked under load. It's getting worse---it will only run for about an hour between kool-downs now. This is my 1st Netgear Router---not anxious to stay with this brand. Any good brand and model suggestions?
Only other brand I have tried is linksys, worked great but it was a G router. I might add that this WNDR3700 in place in and air conditioned room that stays right at 72 degrees. It sits on top of my desk right in line with the air coming out of the floor register. What is the warranty on the 3700? |

This is my 1st Netgear product and it's disappointing that it has failed this soon. Great while it lasted, but for the premium price these WNDRs demand (I paid $192 for the 3700), ---not a good value. I'm going to consider the WNDR 4500 or the Cisco Linksys E4200 to replace the 3700. However, my only experience with Netgear hasn't been good. Thanks so much for your help. I just picked-up & installed my new Cisco Linksys E4200 (V2) from Staples this morning --- WOW!
I'm now realizing my WNDR 3700 was evidently defective from day one. I have 30m Charter Cable internet and have never experienced the speeds & throughput I am getting now with the Linksys! Also, I can now connected wirelessly out to my steel shop building. Couldn't do that with the 3700, even with the doors to the shop open. |

Your experience was worse than mine!. I at least was able to use mine for a little over a year, although I now realize performance was horrible.
I don't want to condemn Netgear, but my only experience with Netgear wasn't good at all. Support after the sale wasn't great, and when the 3700 finally died completely, I was told it was slightly out of warranty and that i was on my own! I went to Staples this morning and considered the Linksys and the Netgear WNDR 4500. Both were rated good in all the reviews I read. After talking to the computer department manager about the Netgear and the Linksys, I decided the Linksys was my best choice. He also said that in general, they had virtually no returns of Linksys products. This thing is FAST, and the distance / range I can connect, is amazing. Set-up was totally a no-brainer. Good luck with your issue. I hope it all works out for you. Tom |

I logged into my router to be told an upgrade was available. My router just got upgraded to 1.0.0.32. Since then, I've had big problems in connecting to the Internet. I've tried 1.0.0.12 again but it stated it was not a proper file for my router.
Anyone help on this. I have done a reboot as well as a reset to factory. |
