Default HDMI Handshake

If I start my system up in this order everything is rock solid: NTV550 > Onkyo > TV >HDMI.

If I start in any other sequence, have the TV on, or the TV on HDMI, I will get multiple lost signals on the HDMI handshake before it locks in. Sometimes it just locks up, flickers and or has video artifacts.

Is this a bug or is there something else going on?

Yep, I've always had the same issues too. Once the NTV powers up on the starting screen, it's visable and after the final power up and the led goes greeen then goes blank. Found that I would have to unplug the hdmi once or twice before it syncs up. I have an Onkyo receiver too with Samsung plasma. I did notice that once I changed my video settings to 1080P 24fps the HDMI indicator came on my receiver and it was more stable. As long as the power plus wasn't pulled, after that things seem to be better.

I have a similar problem (in fact this is my main issue with this device). I have NeoTV550 > Yamaha rxv663 > Samsung LN46A650.

The issue I have is that about 25% of the time, the signal will not pass through to the TV. It may be the turn on sequence but I have not narrow it down. I also see that when this happens, the Yamaha receiver seems to have a hard time as it flashes PCM on and off. The only solution is to cycle power.

Additionally, I though about switching the system to power off instead of standby, and that works once since it automatically switches itself to standby.

I'm using fw 3.2.16.

If I start my system up in this order everything is rock solid: NTV550 > Onkyo > TV >HDMI.

My TV is also a Samsung 50 inch Plasma.

Another problem I have is that if the movie is paused or stopped for a long period of time it locks up on trying to restart the movie and screws up my NAS (DLink 323) which has to be rebooted in order to work again. What in the heck can cause that?

I constantly have this problem.. Recently much more often than before update 3.2.16. I have NTV550 connected to Onkyo TX-SR608 and from there to Samsung UE46B8000 LED TV.

In the beginning I was restarting my NTV550 to solve this problem but I have found out that just changing audio/video source on the Onkyo from the NTV550 to some other (e.g. TV receiver box) and then back to NTV550 re-establishes HDMI connection so no restart of any device is necessary.

I hope this helps some people to make this issue a bit more bearable until Netgear fixes it (hopefully some time soon as it is really frustrating).

I also have the onkyo tx608. And the hdmi handshake issues are annoying. Almost every day when "power" it up from standby it will not connect. and I have to to pull the powercord to restart it, then it works.

Can you verify the supported HDMI verison of all the hardware and cables that are used. I resolved a similar issue with a LG connected to a NeoTV550 by changing to HDMI 1.3 compatible cable. I was unable to detemine the version of the original cable that was used.

Maybe this will help.
