Default wired xbox 360

why can i figure this out? I am getting ready to toss everything out the window! Yes I have searched the forum and online and still cant get it working. A simple wired connection to the xbox from my 3700 shouldn't be so tough to do. I keep getting the "can't obtain an ip address from your router". When it set on auto on the xbox it gives it an ip starting with 169 and xbox says if my IP address is 0.0.0.0 or begins with 169, it means your router or gateway doesn't have DHCP turned on. Turn on DHCP so that your router will automatically give your console an IP address. It is on. My linksys had no issues at all and hooked everything right up with no screwing with everything. Any suggestions..from anyone who has this router and an xbox?

thanks

Take a look at the DHCP pool (start and ending address). The WNDR3700 probably has an address of 192.168.1.1, configure the xBox with a static address between the WNDR3700 and the start address of the DHCP pool.

IP address: 192.168.1.5
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.1.1
Preferred DNS server: 192.168.1.1
Alternate DNS server: <leave blank>

Save your settings and reboot the xBox. You should be able to connect to xBox Live via the WNDR3700 . . .

1) is the routers lights on.
2) do you have the x360 connected to one of the LAN ports and not the WAN port.

The 3700 comes with DHCP on by default. Do you have any other devices, are they getting IP's?

it's not..

169 means.. APIA

I would look make sure LAN Ports on router has light and also look behind the xbox.

below is to see LED status on xbox side if you can see green /orange lights
Quote:
Verify that the network cable is properly connected to the back of the computer. In addition, when checking the connection of the network cable, ensure that the LEDs on the network are properly illuminated. For example, a network card with a solid green LED or light usually indicates that the card is either connected or receiving a signal. Note: generally, when the green light is flashing, this is an indication of data being sent or received.

If, however, the card does not have any lights or has orange or red lights, it is possible that either the card is bad, the card is not connected properly, or that the card is not receiving a signal from the network.

If you are on a small or local network and have the capability of checking a hub or switch, verify that the cables are properly connected and that the hub or switch has power.

From experience, my grandson and I know some xBox(s) have a flaky NIC. Sometimes it will work as a DHCP client, and other times we have had to configure with a static address to give it a kick in the pants. If the unit doesn’t respond with a static address the OP has three other possible problems:

1. A bad NIC on the xBox
2. A bad patch cord (Ethernet Cable), or possibly
3. A bad port on the router

Test using the process of elimination . . .

The WNDR3700 probably has an address of 192.168.1.1 . correct

I tried setting a static using 192.168.1.255 because it was after my range of 2-254...then i tried 240 with no luck. I read somewhere it had to be out of the DHCP range.

I get a yellow light on the router (when the xbox is on). i even swapped out the pc and the xbox thinking maybe it was the port.

I have everything else in the house wireless. iphones, wii, laptops, etc. no problems.

the xbox worked wired worked when i had my old router with no problems.

tomorrow i will go right into the modem to make sure it isn't the xbox itself no narrow it down.

should I make the xbox static? should I be within or out of the DHCP range? as long as it isn't the same as something wireless connecting? then what do i have to do with the router setting after that?

also, APIA is the capital and the largest city of Samoa...just having some fun..you lost me with that post

You can NOT use .255

X.x.x.255 is broadcast

You must between ip 1-254

192.168.1.(anything) except for 1 (used by router) and 255 (used for broadcast)...

I would check ethernet wiriing (plug a laptop in where the xbox is and see if it connects, and if it connects at max speed (gigabit or 100tx full if the wires are old-ish).
