Same problem here..sending mine back..Just to let you all know..I also have my current model WNDR4000 and was going to upgrade to the said 4500 model..my 4000 is ALSO saying January 1st 2003..
I loaded earlier firmware and said same. On the 4500..I loaded earlier and the latest BETA..it always still said January 1st 2003. So it is happening with more models than just the 4500.. I also believe it is wreaking havok with the scheduling part of the routers.. The signal schedule sutdown feature in advanced area is grayed out so you cannot use or schedule it to trun off the wireless signals.. Nice feature to keep the kiods off the net at night..what I liked about it. Waiting to grade back to the 4500 WHEN I know the problems are corrected.. At least it was a short time so I got my money back for now. |

I just can't believe Netgear has allowed this to go on this long. Hopefully they will update the firmware to allow users to specify their own ntp server rather than having to rely on Netgears.

Bought my 4500 on Monday and have spent the last two days trying to figure out why the time is wrong and does not change, thought it was something I was doing wrong. I agree with others here, Netgear must update the firmware and make it possible to change the time server to one that works. Without the correct time this router does not function properly.

I finally gave up on my WPN824v3 and just bought a new Lynksys router. This problem with the NTS not being able to be changed and the netgear time server being down for several days is unacceptable and is the last straw for me and this router. I have gotten no response from netgear customer service either. I think my router is correct in that it is equivalent to a product manufactured in January 2000 and so I need to replace it to get my home network back to Feb 2012... Nice work Netgear in losing another customer.

I have Model WNR3500L, and when I saw the time was about 4 minutes behind, I reset the router, now I get the time of Jan 1 2003, lost my Traffic meter info.
This got to be the NTP server on NETGEAR side. Stupid to not have manual setup for time, and stupid not to be able to change the NTP server.

The ability to be able to manually set current time has been mentioned before, would be a good idea in my opinion. As for being able to change the NTP server address, well I think it has a lot to do with when Netgear got into trouble, see this; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NTP_ser...suse_and_abuse
