Default screen shimmering/refresh in menu

Hi All,

Just curious if others see a very slight shimmering when the screen refreshes when you make any menu selection(no shimmering during playback though). Now to be fair...I just received my EVA8000 last night and had only an hour to play with it before I went to bed.

So..it looks as though this unit only outputs 480i or 720p. My TV(a Hitachi first generation HDTV(no hdmi out..only component)) will take 480(i/p) and 1080i. It will convert the 720p feed to 1080i. I also am using component switching in my outlaw audio pre/pro that may be affecting this (although unlikely).

Later tonight I will run a direct component cable from the EVA to the HDTV to bypass the pre/pro to see if there is any affect.

Anyone else see this?

It'll do 1080i out. There's a setting called (I think) "TV Mode" which I think is off the Advanced Setup menu. Main menu--> More-->Supervisor Functions --> Advanced Setup. If it's not there, it's in there somewhere nearby. I don't think I saw it in the manual, I just stumbled on it while poking around the setup choices.

There's also a TV Mode button on the remote that changes it, but I don't know if its persistent between restarts or not (setting it from the Supervisor menu is).

Haven't noticed the shimmering issue you mention. What firmware are you using?

That's interesting..the TV mode button in the setup program only gave me those two options(480i/720p)

I am on .120 I believe. I am a little hesitant about upgrading to the latest beta with a couple of these posts referring to problems with the reboot loops that are occurring, although from the mod's comments it sounds as if those issues are related to the library files on the PC.

Thanks.

The TV Mode button only cycles through these modes: 480i, 720p, HDMI 720p. To get to other modes you go to More->Supervisor->Advanced->Local->Display->Display Mode.

Your choices there are quite varied all the way up to 1080p

After having a few more hours to play..the shimmering is only when the video overlay is in the upright corner. Example....when you are watching a movie and then click the back button so the menu comes up, but the movie is still playing in upper right corner. This is not a big deal for me, it's just a FYI .

The other issue related to this(once again not a big deal to me) is if you do the same thing when watching a HD feed and you bump back to the menu with the HD feed in the upper right hand side of the screen..the menu text begins to pixelate a bit. Both of the occurrences are seen when I am watching in 1080i, I have not tested other modes yet.

I am very happy with this product so far. Kudos to the development team for their work and the the mod's who takes these questions back to them.
