OK, so. I signed up to Virgin Media about 3/4 weeks ago, before hand, about 6 months before, I was with Sky using my own DGN1000 router with no issues. This router hasnt been touched during my time with no internet access, as i used it to access LAN devices such as my NAS. I also have a second Netgear DGN1000SP router, as provided by VM when i signed up. Both routers suffer from the same issue.
Anyway. Since joining VM. I've been randomly disconnected from the internet, and by this, i mean that I cannot ping any external internet address or IP, but can still access LAN devices etc with no issues. There was no pattern to this at all. All the LED's on the front of the router are all green as if normal operation, and the router's status and config pages all report that its connected and everything is fine and hunky dory. However its not, as the ping test fails from the router itself, and no network device can establish a connection anywhere (NAS, phones, 2 x laptops, 1xDesktop). In the past week a so, ive found a method of re-producing this error, suprisingly, with the WoW Client Downloader (background and from the launcher). It will download as normal for a few minutes, and then suddenly slows down, and any ping tests running at the same time will timeout, and according to all LAN devices, all internet communication is lost. It took me a while to get it escalated as a problem with VM, but got there eventually, so they've been fiddling with line settings to improve SNR etc. They are about right at the moment, altho my line speed has now been reduced from 23mb to 4.5mb. And im still able to reproduce the error on demand with the client launcher. I've tried with most options enabled and disabled including uPnP etc btw. Lets cut this little story down a bit. Done some digging. Got access to the syscmd.htm. Did iptables -L before my internet dropped out, everything seemed ok, both left and right frame). Attempted to do iptables -L after the internet blackout. And the left frame doesnt update (no output from iptables -L apparently), but the right frame starts to begin filling up with this: Code:
<2>Virtual device ppp0 asks to queue packet! <4>printk: 87 messages suppressed. <2>Virtual device ppp0 asks to queue packet! <4>printk: 52 messages suppressed. <2>Virtual device ppp0 asks to queue packet! <4>printk: 51 messages suppressed. <2>Virtual device ppp0 asks to queue packet! <4>printk: 43 messages suppressed. <2>Virtual device ppp0 asks to queue packet! <4>printk: 40 messages suppressed. <2>Virtual device ppp0 asks to queue packet! <4>printk: 45 messages suppressed. <2>Virtual device ppp0 asks to queue packet! <4>printk: 35 messages suppressed. <2>Virtual device ppp0 asks to queue packet! <4>printk: 44 messages suppressed. <2>Virtual device ppp0 asks to queue packet! Oh, and i forgot to mention, wireless or wired, once the internet goes dark, neither work to access anything on the internet. For reference, and for your lol'ing pleasure, feel free to checkout my rage on the VM forums. http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/...s/td-p/1102903 Thanks for any help anyone can provide. Im totally baffled with this. |

I also forgot to mention, and i apologise for posting again so soon.
But its also not a P2P issue that causes the internet blackout. utorrent for example, has no issues downloading Debian ISO's. |

SKY and Virgin both has ISP branded firmware for netgear products they supply .
It is very possible that depending on how you own this unit DGN1000. If this was retail unit, I would first ask ISP on compatible issues with retail products against connecting to their network.

Thanks for the response jmizoguchi.
However, this problem with complete internet blackout occurs with both the Netgear DGN1000's that I own. My own router is a retail DGN1000, and the VM provided DGN1000SP. Just trying to figure out if this would be a problem/bug affected both routers, or a problem with the line/exchange. Anyone know of any testing tools available on the router itself via the web interface syscmd.htm that would help at all? |

if there is VM branded unit and I would ask virgin support if there is difference in netgear firmware and virgin branded firmware.
