Hi there all,
Did a search of the internet and found no answers for this question. I completed transferring all my data to mystora NAS from a 1tb external that had lost its case(seagate HD). ended up being about 800gb. I then safely removed the drive from the NAS, insterted the new drive and formatted it. I then safely reinserted the drive with my data back in, and pulled the newly formatted drive out, and reinserted, so I could have the 2 HDs in the stora. now I am at a loss to explain what has gone wrong. I believe the stora was automatically set to RAID, which did not occur. Annoyed, I decided I'd just stick with the Drive full of my data and not worry about the other one. After once again shutting the stora down, I reinserted the Drive with the data only to find that it would not "Rebuild". perplexed, I rebooted and reinserted the blank drive back in and the drive began to Rebuild. 2 hours later, it completed and I found myself with a RAIDed Stora- the problem was, all of my data from the full drive had vanished and I was left with 2 empty drives. After shutting down my stora and loading it back up again, I am now 1 hour 50 minutes away from the completion of "Recovering" status under the Stora's RAID preference. Can someone help alleviate my desire to slash my wrists and tell me this is normal and my data should return in the next 2 hours, or has the Stora decided to "rebuild" the blank drive, destroying about 5 years of vision, music and photo hoarding over 3 computers? any help would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Hates NAS Boxes,... ![]() ![]()

Update- Recovering @ 98%, then going from 10 minutes to go to 54 hours to go, then "server proxy error".

Hi. I'm lost here.
You've got an external drive with data on, that has no case. You have a stora with a drive in. You copied the data from the first drive to the stora. You then removed the drive from the stora and inserted a new hard drive? So you have 3 hard drives in total? Or did you insert the first drive from the broken case machine? Did you do all this drive swapping with the stora powered down? With one drive in, what where you hoping to rebuild? It does sound like, with the drive swapping and all that, that your data may well have been sent to the great digital dustbin in the sky. Maybe some data recovery software will help you out.

2 hard drives. one was fine with data on it.
then i turn off the stora, and put the other one in. for some reason it was not wanting to format the disk, so to be sure i turned off the stora again and only put the "new" drive in. it formatted no problem. then i turned it off again and put the drive with everything on it in the hopes of jbod'ing it. the order i did it----- stora off-- full hd in---- stora on--stora off----new hd in--stora on. when i started up the stora app, it began to RAID the drives. when i returned about 30 mins later, I had dual Amber lights. i removed the blank drive(turning off obv), and then restarted only to find the drive with the data had now gone amber too, and it would not "rebuild", just kept refreshing back to splash screen. theeeeen I put them both in at the same time and the rebuild starts automatically... |

more and more likely that my data has gone- it keeps saying i have 900gb free and wont finish recovering, stopping at 97%.
Can i safely assume my data is long gone, and its probably going to cost me about a grand to get it back? |

What firmware have you got?
As for cost of data recovery, i have. No idea, sorry.

I am not sure- out of the box from a year ago firmware perhaps?
Stupid question, I did not realise the bays were labelled. is it possible i have placed the blank drive into bay one and the stora has just done what its meant to do and RAID'd to the full drive in bay 2 it instead? |

update- the nas seems to get to 97% recovering and just conks out, not able to remote connect or normal connect, and keeps popping me back to the splash screen.
at that point i get- Solid Blue light, Solid Green light, BLinking Green light, with no access to the drive. if i force shutdown, the recovery process begins again on restart, from 0%.. will getting Ubuntu and acessing the drive that way solve anything- i assume that it will just do what the nas is doing and "not read" that the drive is 800gb full... |

do a reflash of the stora. it will update the firmware to the lastest one and fix any niggles in the system files.

Final Update- reflashed stora, both drives now need to be Configured to RAID or JBOD.
Commence killing of self. |
