The WNDR3700 does indeed have a fairly large tftp upload window, making recovery fairly easy.
The worse are some dd-wrt compatible Fry's $19-$29 routers. They have half second tftp upload windows. The USR5461v1 also had half second tftp windows, requiring upto a dozen tries before I successfully put dd-wrt on it. Hence, a batch loop with quarter second pings, I can recover it in no more than 2-3 tries. |

i tried to reload the firmware as said in this post.
tftp says file uploaded successfully but on router nothing happens. Green light keeps bilking and ping to 192.168.1.1 gets stopped. |

I also have a similar issue as sanketgroup
Tried to reload various versions of the firmware using tftp. file upload is successful each time, after a minute the WNDR3700 reboots however comes up with the green light still blinking. I can ping the router, webGUI is however inaccessible. Any suggestions? Thanks |

sounds like you got bad router if TFTP with different firmware still has same results

One last thing to try is a serial 3.3v connection to the router... if you can get it connected, then it is not bricked.... if can't, your bootloader is toast... the wndr3700 has a jtag port and you can ask someone for a copy of their bootloader to flash onto the router... Nowdays, whenever I have a chance I always make a whole flash & a partial/bootloader backup, in case I screw things up. For me, it is faster than an RMA & cheaper than a replacement. It can take hours if your not familiar... I'm assuming you only have firmware issues & not toasted caps or other hardware failures... in the end, it may not be worth your time...

Which port on the router?

You'd pop open the case cover and locate the GND, VCC, TX, & RX pins... I use an FTDI-chip based one, it is much more reliable and most computer no longer have serial ports... it safer also... it must be a Serial TTL/USB TTL, DO NOT get the +5V version, only the 3.3V... I have the "TTL-232R-3V3-AJ", since I can solder a jack on the back of the router for easy access OR create a set of jack+cables for each type of routers... those were the days
But that version is rarely ordered by people, so it is often back-ordered... People order the more fragile version which connects directly on the motherboard....
