Connection dropping with chat programs

It's an odd problem, really. When I have AIM running, I'm constantly disconnected and then reconnected to the point where it thinks I'm some bot and won't let me reconnect. This problem also happens over any IRC client when I'm broadcasting a streamed video to streaming sites. When I'm not streaming, the connection is more stable, but I still get dropped. This is happening on both a PC (wired) and a MacBook (wireless on the 5Ghz band)
