Default Slow connection over wifi on WNDR3400v2

I went out and bought a new WNDR3400 to replace my old router since I was getting very slow speeds.

Turns out Im still having very slow speeds and I'm out of ideas. My connection says im connected at 72.2 Mbps my signal is excellent.

I'm about 20 feet from the with one wall in between us and Im only getting in the range of 800-990 Kbps when transferring to a NAS that is hardwired into the router.

I have disabled all firewalls and anti-virus. I am just using WPA2-PSK AES encryption. channel is on auto and speed up to 300 mbps selected.

I dont understand why my connection on uploading is so crappy. When I start uploading to the NAS I start getting packet loss when pinging the gateway.

Im not sure what to do I even took the router back twice and replaced it. Any help would be appreciated

Well that could be your wireless adapter also. Set the router to a fixed channel, like 1. Encryption is correct, try disabling WMM, or enabling WMM and test.

ok I tried multiple channels. by removing the wireless security I did increase it to about 1.5Mbps.

However I'm also seeing the entire router drop out. I loose connection to everything when I attempt to upload something for about 15 seconds. Then everything comes back. Sometimes the transfer refuses to transfer at all now.

I was inclined to believe the wireless adapter was faulty on the desktop since this happens now on several new routers. But since the connection drops everywhere im not so sure now. Any more ideas?

Scratch that last post.

I ran a ping test from my ipod to the router during one of these drop sessions. it never drops just gets incredible slow. 319ms + pings. Guess this made it appear to drop. maybe I will get a new adapter..

funny thought. I never had trouble actually transferring files through my old router other than it was slow.

test at closer distance such as 8 feet away

I have seen poor performance at 20ft

New router? Ok, download the newest firmware 1.0.0.16 and follow the upgrade procedures and reflash the routers firmware. Once done, hard reset the router and reconfigure it manually from scratch.
