Default Cant http://192.168.0.101 on WGXB102

Brand new WGXB102 Wall-Plugged Wireless Range Extener kit, straight out of the box - plugged into my Netgear router DG834G V2 - all LEDs on - great - quick look at the setup instructions - simply browse to

http://192.168.0.101

ah - The Page cannot be displayed. Not so simple then.......

Several frustrating hours later, I discovered the WGXB102 is configured for DHCP straight out of the box, and therefore was at 192.168.0.7 (in my case) not .101

So, if you cant connect, check your router for new devices, or use Network Magic to sniff them out - they may not where you expect....

Thanks for the info. That will be helpful when working with these devices in the future.

Jont, I'm having the same problem - how did you discover the address to access the config page was 192.168.0.7?

Doh! Got it! Many thanks - all sorted. I used Network Magic and managed to get into the GUI page to make a secure (WPA-PSK) connection at last.
Regards.

I've had the same problem - I'm doing this via the kit which I've just installed, but it's SSID is still NETGEAR and I can't access 192.168.0.101 to change it to the real SSID.
I've downloaded Network Magic, but it says everything is fine and it doesn't show the NETGEAR kit seperately from the router. Also, looking at the router information, it's not obvious where the correct Netgear address is.
The thing is up and running very well - it's just unprotected and it's not related properly to my router.
Any further advice most welcome.

Mike

Mike, I know how you feel! OK - here's what I did. Open Network Magic, click on the Network map to open it, click on the Wireless Access point icon in the map, click on the Details tab in the right hand panel, note the IP Address (in my case 192.168.1.68 - tho' it varies). Use this address in your browser ie (in my case) "http://192.168.1.68" - that should then open up the Netgear GUI and you can then communicate with the WGXB setup. Go to the Wireless settings page and set up your security. I STLL have NETGEAR showing as the SSID - even tho' I am using a different SSID for my router (BTHomeHub). I have set up the same security (WPA-PSK) and Key (password) as on the HomeHub - it works a treat and it is secure (or, at least, the system tells me it is). I did all this by trial and error -Hope this helps.

It's been ages since your advice and today is the first time I've had a chance to retry this thing. Well, I took your advice, but the Netgear device is not showing on the Network Magic map. Only my router is showing which has the XE102 connected to it - and very healthy it looks too! The Netgear connection is visible in the list of available wireless networks.
I tried adding it to my network using Newtwork Magic, but this failed. So, even though it's sitting next to me, all plugged in and happily winking away, it's managed to make itself completely invisible to Network Magic. Also, I tried following the badly translated booklet i.e changed the IP address, but it's not possible to change the laptop's SSID. Anyway, it all failed. So, back to the drawing board.

You can always guess at what the ip is for the WGXB102. First, find out what ip your PC has by running 'ipconfig/all' from the command prompt.

For example:
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.3
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1

The default gateway would be your router. If there are very few machines in your location, then it's easy to guess what other ip's are in use. In the example, since my PC is 192.168.1.3 and I only have three other devices, then the other devices are most likely 192.168.1.2, 192.168.1.4, or 192.168.1.5. DHCP ip addresses are not assigned randomly but start from the lowest ip in the range, so just work your way up trying ip addresses until you find it.

Well, I did ipconfig and it revealed what I already knew - that my IP address is 10.99.1.0 (default gateway 192.168.1.1 etc). Unfortunately, no amount of changing the IP address last digit helped. It's still sitting like a lemon.
The instruction booklet tells the user that the first step is to change the SSID on the my machine which I think is impossible as it's set on the router and although I can view it, I can't alter it on the laptop. Also, I've not changed the static IP address to 192.168.1.210 as they suggested as a message came up saying I was already using it!!
All very confusing. I've sent a request for help to Netgear and they've replied by asking for details of my router plus my IP addresses. I'm not holding my breath.
